The program is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach, which combines subjects related to the social and natural sciences, and emphasizes an applied vision towards the critical discussion and formulation of mitigation and adaptation policies. It also studies other global ecological problems strongly linked to climate change, such as food sovereignty and loss.
