The Master in Hydrosanitary is aimed at training professionals with technical capacity for the management, design, evaluation, construction, operation and maintenance of the hydrosanitary infrastructure that allows the use and exploitation of water and drainage systems in an efficient and sustainable way; maintaining an aptitude for leadership, creativity, and an investigative spirit to solve the challenges entailed by reducing access to basic services related to water, with a strong social and environmental commitment.

It is a professional master's degree that aspires to train professionals capable of solving the demands of the sector caused by the gap in access to basic services, especially environmental sanitation with respect to water, with critical thinking and high professional capacity, which contribute to the generation and application of knowledge, in a context of ethics and respect, that contributes to the integral development of our society.

Graduate profile

Graduates of this master's degree will be able to:

  • Know the theoretical foundations and parameters that influence the sizing of drinking water and sanitation systems, in order to achieve efficient designs.
  • Model and integrate complex water transport systems that include high pressure pipes, pumping systems, canals, bypass works, and special energy dissipation elements, in order to optimize energy systems.
  • Know the degree of contamination of the waters affected by anthropic processes, depending on their characterization, and the treatment needs for them.
  • Design the necessary hydrometry works for the control of flow rates at the source, transport systems and waste water discharges to the receiving courses, according to the requirements of the country's regulations.
  • Design special transport and drainage systems, unloading structures and river margin protection works against river flooding, using specialized software modeling.
  • Evaluate the loss indicators of a drinking water distribution system, and know the main actions to be carried out to rehabilitate and maintain it.
  • Estimate and manage the requirements of hydrosanitary infrastructure that a community requires, with a vision of integral management of the water cycle in said settlement.
  • To conceive hydrosanitary projects in an integral way, which include adequate management models in the technical and financial management of a drinking water and sanitation company.
  • Design efficient wastewater treatment systems, considering the most appropriate technologies for each human settlement, according to environmental and social requirements.
  • Plan and execute all phases of a hydrosanitary project, complying with all national and international regulations regarding technical and economic parameters during its design, construction and operation.
  • Act with leadership skills, creativity, and investigative spirit, to solve the challenges of reducing access to basic water-related services, with a strong social and environmental commitment.
  • Be an active part of society, through responsible participation in water-related projects, promoting ethics and solidarity in the exercise of their daily professional activities.
