Aware of current scientific and technological progress, a reality that brings dehumanizing tendencies and deterioration to life in all its manifestations, the University of Azuay presents the Master's program in Bioethics.

The program is designed to provide knowledge and develop skills that help identify ethical conflicts in the health area and in society, raised by biomedical and biotechnological research and development; being able to critically analyze ourselves by making ethically correct decisions focused on respect for life and the dignity of people.

Graduate profile

Know: What learning outcomes related to the domain of paradigms, theories, categories or conceptual systems, methods and languages ​​of integration of knowledge, profession and research, will the future professional of the graduate program develop?

Strengthen in students a reflective spirit aimed at achieving personal autonomy, within a framework of freedom of thought and ideological pluralism.

Know How: What learning outcomes related to the handling of methods and methodologies, models, protocols, processes and procedures of a professional and investigative nature will be guaranteed in the implementation of the postgraduate program?

To train responsible academics and professionals, people of science and conscience, with ethical and supportive conscience, capable of contributing to the development of the institutions of the Republic, to the validity of the democratic order, and to stimulate social participation.

Knowing Knowing: What learning outcomes related to epistemological horizons, cognitive abilities and investigative skills are necessary for the future practice of the fourth level professional?

Identify and analyze the ethical problems that arise in the doctor-patient, health agent-patient relationship, at the beginning and end of life, in health management, in biomedical research and in ecology, in the light of the principles of Beneficence, Non-Maleficence, Justice and Autonomy.

Be: What are the values ​​and principles, within the framework of the dialogue of knowledge, interculturality, universal, critical and creative thinking and respect for the rights of good living, which will be promoted in the professional training offered by the program ?

Contribute to the knowledge, preservation and enrichment of ancestral knowledge and national culture, as part of good ethical behavior and solidarity.

Entry requirements

The Master in Bioethics has an interdisciplinary character and as such is aimed at professionals preferably coming from: medicine, nursing, dentistry, kinesiology, nutrition, philosophy, theology, law, educational sciences and psychology, owing their third level degrees.

Be registered in the SNIESE system respectively.

Admission process

Applicants must pre-register on the website of the postgraduate department (https://www.uazuay.edu.ec/admisiones/posgrados/), here they must upload documentation such as the third-level degree, their updated CV, certificate of approval of English at the university that graduated (in case of not having a certificate of approval of English, the UDA will take an exam that demonstrates a level B1), and passport-size photo. Once the pre-registration has been made, for this, the registration must be paid (50 USD) through the payment button with any credit card, in the University Treasury or by deposit or bank transfer to the following accounts:
